Typhoon Project Complete

Postby ActionArt » Mon Feb 08, 2010 11:30 pm

Well, I think I'm FINALLY done this one. I'm just sending it out to the pilots for final inspection. That was a long project :p

Here's a medium res preview - http://www.actionart.ca/ForumPics/TyphoonsMR.jpg

And a high res preview (1/4 actual) http://www.actionart.ca/ForumPics/TyphoonsHR.jpg

Image

Now I need to come up with a name. I was going to call it "Built to Fight where Others Feared to Fly" but one of the pilots didn't like that because he didn't want it to sound like Typhoons were the only ones that flew those missions. I thought it was great but...

Anyone have any ideas???

Also, if you happen to notice any errors please let me know before I go to print :)

Thanks for everyone's help!!!

Thanks everyone, I'm glad you like it! I guess I should give some explanation of what's going on. Here it is in brief:

This is operation Varsity, the successful crossing of the Rhine (unlike the other notorious one). Pilot Harry Hardy is in the lead Typhoon. It was his 96th (and final) operation! He said he was quite relieved as he crossed the river.

That day they were dropping cluster bombs on AA sites then strafing until they ran out of ammo. A cluster bomb can be seen bursting on an 88. The burning Dak actually crashed right behind where Churchill was standing watching the events. I thought that was interesting. The town of Wesel is burning in the distance. It took heavy pounding.

Over 400 Typhoons took part and over 2000 gliders and a whole lot of paratroopers. One of the pilots I have lined up for signing was a glider pilot. He had 4 missions. Amazing to survive even one!

I think this one will be on canvas only. It will be available in about 20"x34" and 30"x51" sizes. It is getting harder and more expensive to get good paper prints.

I'm not sure what the weight of paper is I usually use. It's a special Kodak paper just for Chromira printers. It's the only kind for those printers. It's fairly heavy.

Whenever I've had a hard time trying to
name something like a story or an
article, I've found it's often best to
try to avoid plays on words or anything
clever and just stick with the simple and
direct.

I like Rhine Crossing or Crossing the Rhine
or something along those lines....

Powerful stuff, by the way....

Len, I feel it would be good to use the Squadron number in the title as they are all out at work in your image.

I think just Crossing the Rhine might be good. One of my key pilots was a glider pilot so I probably shouldn't exclude him by putting the Typhoon squadron number. It would work otherwise.

I'll run it by the pilots and see what they think.

Thanks everyone :)

Glad you like it! As for a Vulcan, I'd like to but I'm afraid the market for it where I am would be very small. My next project is a Mosquito and I will likely do a couple more Typhoons and maybe a Tempest.

I have pilots lined up for the Mosquito and other Typhoons but not for the Tempest yet...It will be a while so I haven't started looking yet.
