Excellent - Can't believe I missed this!!

Dougs do you do this as a hobby or is it your work?

I'm beginning to think we need a 'professionals' thread to show case work - we have a few talented members!!

I just work on them for fun/pass the time while working away from home which is why i get stuff done in fits and starts been having a look at the "professionals" models and they are in a different league my most complete model for instance is about 500k bytes the iris vulcan model is 8mb (16 times more detail) i just love the Avro's design and nobody has done theses models as far as i can see. really enjoy making them too, takes ages tho ~x(

So my next question is - do you make these available for general use or just fly them yourself for fun?

PS sorry all you talented types for the questions but this type of thing fascinates me :)

Dougs, maybe you could put the aircraft in the very early silver the early B1's had, XA890 had it and the straight wing the Prototype did, maybe reskin it to her? This is the one Roly Falk barrel Rolled at Farnborough :D

yes its the model in FSX the textures work differently to 2004 and they end up transparent instead of reflective. send me your email i will send you the new model and textures that will hopefully work.

the slow response prob. because of the quite low power of the conway engines think they are about 8000lb of thrust each thats 10000lb down on the 301 olympus :-o

it works has the wrong pannel but will look at changing for one from another vulcan i have.currently flies like a brick open throttle it goes into a dive close and it seems to fly better might have to reprogram my controls.this manual flying is fun no autopilot or throttle.I don't use autorudder the stick twist works fine.will let you know by email any more when if i find it .

The RR Avons originally fitted to VX770 were low powered, but the Conways (R.Co.10s) fitted at the end of her life were 16,500 lb thrust. Performance would have been similar to Oly 201s.

One Olympus 301 has twice the power of a complete F1 starting grid.
XM655 has four of them, all serviceable.

whoops will uprate the engines thanks for the info :ymapplause:
edit i just found out i had put the thrust at 11,000lb so not too far off but have now got the correct amount :)
just looked at the olympus engines fitted to B1 vulcans ratings are;
Bristol Siddeley Olympus versions
100 - 9,750 lbf (43,400 N)
101 - 11,000 lbf (49 kN)
102 - 12,000 lbf (53 kN)
104 - 13,400 lbf (60,000 N)
the conway was more powerful at the time they were fitted to the vulcan and victor's

If you are specifically modelling the prototypes, then you have a wide choice of thrust configurations, starting low with Avons, through Sapphires and Olympus 100s, then finally Conways as a flying test bed.

If you want a representative Vulcan B1, I suggest using the Olympus 104 at 13,500 lb thrust.

next up is the Avro Atlantic for some major upgrade work and an FSX super guppy repaint ;)

edit FSX Stratocruiser found here http://www.shockwaveproductions.com/377.html
fantastic to fly and as good as the iris vulcan (have to start it up etc.) well worth buying!

Been flying Dougs Vulcan for a short time it goes great and flies well ,Have tried today upping the thrust to 15500 and what an increase in performance is like flying a virtual missile .although his set figure is 13500 I have to say that is enough for this model .What it is i don't really know but will settle on the wing shape & area of the prototype, which obviously limits it's performance.I compared it with a vulcan B2 model I already have and it held up very well only slight differences in speeds height and climb but nothing to be worried about .
