Hello from me!

Postby Cdproject » Fri Oct 05, 2012 7:55 am

Good morning all,
Just stumbled across this site all thanks to the tv programme Heroes of the Skies. I was sat at work and we were talking about the nights episode about Bomber Command. I mentioned an old character from my past, who used to fly in Lancasters during WWII and then went on to fly the Vulcan, which was when I met him. I did a bit of a google for him and found him mentioned on your pages.
I'm a serving member of the RAF, employed as an Air Traffic Controller and in my 30 years service ( so far!) have had the joy to work with some amazing aircraft. I'm looking forward to reading some of the threads and hopefully can add a few of my own.....I know I have a few 'dits' to tell which may be of interest.

Welcome to IA we have a few RAF and Ex-RAF members, I'm one. I'm also married to 558s ex display pilot for my sins who also flew PA474 on BBMF so I love both the Vulcan and Lancs.
In memory of a very dear friend - Mike Pearson

Very fond memories of Robbie Gilvary - DTs 1st Vulcan Captain who taught DT all he knew.

One day, when you're on leave in the UK, please come along and say hello to an old friend of yours at Wellesbourne airfield near Stratford in Warwickshire. I'm referring to XM655 which you will remember from your early days at Waddington - she has now been with us for 28 years (eight years longer than was in service with the RAF)....

As an air trafficker did Uncle Joe ever shout at you by the way? :p

Thanks all for the warm welcome. I worked at Coningsby for five years and enjoyed BBMF during my time there, even had a flight on the Dakota! If I'm in the Wellsbourne area when I get back to the UK I will pop in for a visit. I have a 12yr old who just loves the Vulcan and itd make his day to see one up close and personal!

Fortunately I only have good memories of 'Uncle Joe'
