Thank you HunterOf2. I will keep the updates coming, as and when. Obviously it's going to be a long haul. 2012 was the anticipated completion; however, I understand that things are going quite well at the moment so it could be sooner!

Sir Keith Park Memorial Campaign:Use the link below for pictures of the SKP Statue 'maquette' (scale model) unveiling, on 30th October 2008. There are also some interesting pictures of SKP naming his locomotive at Brighton Station on 19th September 1947, plus other related pictures (including aircraft of the 'Battle of Britain Flight' - 'BBF').

Use the link below for a video (7mins+) showing the unveiling of the 'final representation maquette statue' of Sir Keith Park, by his great-great nephew, Terence Stevens-Prior on 30th October 2008 at London City Hall. Here are two photos of 34053 'Sir Keith Park' at Swanage Station on 6th June 1964, with the 11.40am Departure for London's Waterloo Station. This is a scene to be repeated (hopefully!) by 2012, following her Restoration.

Restoration work should be 'roaring ahead' from now on. I will keep you posted on progress as and when I know the ongoing details.

LATEST NEWS! (UPDATE No.2: JANUARY 2009):-
Significant progress will be made during the coming Winter months, culminating in the re-wheeling of the frames during the Spring. All being well, it looks as though 'Sir Keith Park' could be operational in 2010. This is a significant improvement upon the original anticipated date of 2012! However, a lot depends upon the incoming 'cash flow' being maintained to keep the impetus going, especially on the boiler work. Work on the new tender is progressing well and most of the new parts required (wheels, axles, springs, etc.) have already been purchased. The Boiler Inspector requires the rear tubeplate on the boiler to be replaced (at a cost of about £8,000.00). It would also be preferrable (although not a requirement by the Boiler Inspector) to replace the front tubeplate as well. However, this would add further costs, in the region of £10,000! It is just amazing how much has been achieved so far, on a locomotive deemed to be 'unrestorable' only a short while ago.

'The Sir Keith Park Memorial Campaign' - LATEST UPDATE:
The 'planning approval' process (by Westminster City Council's Planning Department) now begins. The 'Sir Keith Park Memorial Campaign' are submitting two planning applications for (a) The 'temporary' statue, on the 'spare' 4th plinth in Trafalgar Square and (b) The permanent statue, in Waterloo Place (next to The Athenaeum). The following is an extract from an e-mail dated 19th January 2009 that I have received from the Memorial Campaign and in which there are some interesting links: -

[''QUOTE.....]
In support of the planning application the Campaign needs to generate as many emails/letters of support as possible. If you are willing to assist the Campaign by email or letter, you can do so in your own words, or we have a devised a template email/letter which you can access by visiting our website at http://www.sirkeithpark.com/index.aspx, this link will take you to the Campaign website home page, in the left hand column of the home page are two links, the top one takes you to an email letter of support and the second one down takes you to a downloadable version of the letter. We are extremely grateful for any email or letter you send in support of the planning applications.

This morning Terry Smith, Tony Benn and Wing Commander T. Neil DFC AFC AE RAF Rt'd were interviewed regarding Sir Keith Park for the Today programme, Radio 4, this interview was broadcast at 8:20 am and is available on Radio 4's 'Diary Page' via the following link:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/today/hi/today/newsid_7837000/7837147.stm

(There is)... a copy of an article by Tony Benn and Lord Tebbit printed in today's ‘Daily Telegraph’ (pg 20). The following link leads to a copy of the article displayed on the Telegraph newspaper website:

The BBC News have also added a profile piece of Sir Keith Park to their regularly updated news website, you can access this profile piece via the following link:

LATEST NEWS! (UPDATE No.3: FEBRUARY/MARCH 2009):-
A recent appeal from Southern Locomotives Ltd for Donations and/or Share Purchases resulted in a most welcome, good response from Shareholders (surprisingly during these troubled times). This has temporarily eased the financial situation somewhat, enabling the restoration work on 'Sir Keith Park' to carry on at 'full speed' for a while longer.
The driving wheel axleboxes will be overhauled, which will then allow the re-wheeling of the frames to proceed. The driving wheels have been repainted and are inside the Works. The running plates are being reinstated which then allows the lubricators to be fitted, followed by the huge task of reinstating all the copper pipework. Delivery is expected soon of the fully machined coupling rods. This will then enable these and the connecting rods to be immediately reinstated.
Work is nearing completion on the front bogie. The trailing truck is already in place.
The team at Sellindge has built the new cab for 34053 and this will be transferred to Herston before the cladding is reinstated.
Further to the previous 'UPDATE', the funding for the boiler repairs is still a problem. However, due to the success of the recent appeal, some of the serious work can now begin. The rear tubeplate has been ordered and will be delivered, fully drilled, to the West Somerset Railway for fitting. This has been fully funded at a cost of £9,000.00. However, the cost of removing the old tubeplate and fitting the new one is a further £9,000.00. Half of this amount has been covered by one of the Shareholders, but the remainder will need to be found by May this year.

Not much to see at the moment really, what with the boiler assembly work being done at the WSR and the rest at Sellindge and Herston. When everything starts coming together at Herston Works I'm sure there will be some interesting pics to show. If anything is available sooner then obviously I will post it. Many thanks for your interest SM.

blimey PapaWedgy! with the frames and wheels almost done, they won't be waiting long to refit the boiler - where is the boiler by the way? is it off being refurbished somewhere?

i assume that we do still have the means of repairing boilers in the UK?

Yes, things are going really well at the moment (until the money runs out again, of course!!!!).
You will be pleased to know that all the boiler work is being carried out at the West Somerset Railway. (This is from where Southern Locomotives Ltd purchased the rusting, cannabalised hulk of SKP, followed by the transfer to Sellindge in December 2001).
