Thanks Dougs. Great Pics and 'atmospheric' video clip. Nice to know that SKP is 'stretching her legs' on another big Railway.
Looking forward to her visit to the West Somerset Railway, in March (although I very much doubt that I will be able to be there myself).

Thanks PW it was one of those moments that you never forget seeing it float though the steam she is looking like a "real working loco" now with bits of rust and wear :D :D compared with Bostcastle which sat in the shed a few hundred feet away in "factory condition". I can't wait to get on with the build it just seems really difficult to get spare time to get at it. One way or another I am going to get this loco built.

Still keeping super busy however progress on SKP is still going strong. Although the actual build is not progressing at the moment I am sorting out a lot of design and manufacturing issues. I never knew how much work there was in designing a locomotive, there is a lot and this one is VERY complex. Somethings just can't be made in the 1/2" to 1' scale exactly so things have to be redesigned to look the part.
Anyway progress so far,
Boiler design finished (this will look externally almost identical to full size)
Tender chassis design complete
Locomotive chassis design complete
Modifications to my CNC mill to increase accuracy for the build 75% complete
A manufacturing method for the boxpox wheels has also been sorted using 3D CNC
I have even found a way of making the name plates (a challenge in itself!)
These will be water slide transfers onto brass backing and the name will be chemically etched onto brass
Image
This is to scale 33.45mm high
And how big it looks against the frame
Image
And the tender axle boxes and springs (which are to be hidden in the leaf Spring castings)

It has been a very long time since I updated this thread, quite a few things have happened which haven't helped to get this done.
Anyway SKP was to be my next locomotive build after I finished my current project 1500 class GWR, which up till recently was going very well, then we decided to move house. Four months later we are still packed and waiting. So since I can't do any workshop activity I have spent my free time working on SKP. To put some background on my activities, once I have completed my 3D CAD model I can build the locomotive with the confidence that it will work and go together without any problems, I can tell you from experience that this is not true of the older conventional construction methods. There's an awful lot of work ahead building the loco in 3D CAD but the upshot is that if anyone else wants to build it in the future then the plans and model will be available.
So I already had the frames drawn up and some little bits like the smoke box and buffers. I wanted to get the front Bogey done first as it's fairly complex. Here's what I have got done so far,
Image
A slight departure from original I have opted to go for for roller bearings, this will greatly enhance the performance
Image
And this is the latest pic, the side control may need some small alterations and I have two more components to draw up then it's finished
Image
The next part after this is the tender which I am looking forward to as I have lots and lots of pictures I took for reference.

Thank you for your (eagerly awaited) Update, Dougs. Yes, very wise to opt for Roller Bearings. I look forward to any further Updates in 2017.

Wishing you a Happy, Healthy and Successful New Year.

Thanks PW
Thought I would post a pic of the final article, this is as close to the full size SKP as I can make it.

Looking good, Dougs. :ymapplause: :ymapplause:

Are you using AutoCAD?
Sooty

One Olympus 301 has twice the power of a complete F1 starting grid.
XM655 has four of them, all serviceable.

Hi Sooty
Yes I am using Autocad 2011
I have tried solid works, solid edge, geomagic design, and fusion 360 but keep comming back to this one as it's so easy to use and it suits my PC setup well (the others make the graphics card squeal a bit)
All the best

i have completed the drawings for the bogey and most of the tender frames
also sorced parts like bearings and shafts for the wheel axles.
