Museum of Aviation Bucharest

Postby Dagger_id » Sat Oct 01, 2011 10:28 pm

In the beginning i'll show you a few photos from the 90's when the planes was located near the International Airport Otopeni, now Henri Coanda. Some of them wasn't part of the museum collection.Actually the museum is not officially recognized, not even today.Too bad is that he doesn't have a permanent location. They just moved the planes on and on in about 20 years.Few of them was damaged because of the transport and now are in storage waiting to be repaired. For the moment the collection is in Bucharest on a military base, without a tax entrance. The planes are placed inside and outside. These photos are for the first time display in public.Hope you like it.

Well, at least the aircraft are there, and
you say some of them are inside and
under cover........

Are there people who take care of them,
either employed or volunteering?

Are there spare parts and other service
equipment?

A collection like this could be good for
tourism, but it's more important for
your history!

That is to bad,the officials are not so interested in history of aviation. They just grab a large part from the base where the museum is located to build some office buildings and the planes...no comment. :(

Yak-23 Flora "52" first jet fighter in RoAF.There was a two-seater version built by romanians and named IAK-23 D.C.(Dubla Comanda). The conversion was applied for only one plane.

It's a shame the officials don't seem to care.........

Maybe a volunteer group could be formed to
at least tidy things up a little bit?

I think the people in charge might be surprised
by the interest they would get from former
service people if they put-out a call!

I'm sure there must be plenty of former pilots
and mechanics still around......

These people typically LOVE their Aircraft!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately i lost all my photos with the museum and i think that are little chance to recover them. The risk i assumed for not having the back up.I will try to save a part of them but there are little chance. So as a reminder:Don't try it if you don't know it! :(

This MiG-21 PFM "8006"(romanian designation RFMM) was used as a paint scheme experimental version for the further LanceR programme(modernized version for RoAF MiG-21's).It was nicknamed "The Parrot"(Papagalul),obviously for its diverse color schemes. In the background is MiG-21M "710" who is painted as a LanceR C version.
