P.S.You are right about the Bear.I know that the Kuznetsov engines are heard from a distance of 20 km.(i think when the Bear is on takeoff).

Thanks for that info Dagger. As it only used 2 engines for taxiing I would hate to hear all 4 up close. Apparently the prop tips also go supersonic which adds to the decibels. ;)

Never heard a Bear but always loved the sound of the Jag etc. Still love these threads Ian :D :ymapplause:

Yeah like someone tearing canvas - but louder..

My favourite was a fully loaded F-111taking off. The jet efflux really crackled and the low frequency shockwaves pummeled your ribcage. The B1B wasn't far off though - PARDON =P~

No wonder I'm deaf .... I also used to go to 'The Who' concerts before the 120dB ban.
