British airways A.380 - Stansted 29-7-2013

Postby Sickbag_andy » Mon Jul 29, 2013 4:55 pm

BA’s first A.380 G-XLEA paid it's first visit to Stansted this afternoon for some training, here are a few pics of it’s arrival

Then I popped round to north side to try to get some ground pics but it was rather heat-hazy, I thought this one was worth posting – A whale & 2 jumbos, a rare site at STN and being 2 747-8Fs probably rare in most places

Nice capture, surprised you have had no comments on this, it is after all is new girl to the British aviation fleet.

Well done.

Jim.

Thanks Jim - what has really surprised me is how few photos there are of this on the net, there were a few from Fairford last weekend but hardly any others even from when it arrived at Heathrow. A newish aircraft in a new livery usually has it's picture everywhere. I've seen 4 sets from stansted (3 yesterday and one today for the departure) and that's about the most coverage I've seen of it. Maybe people think it's just a 747 with a longer upper deck!

Good capture Andy.

Perhaps it's just me but the 3rd photo shows to my eyes how perspective plays a part when looking at flying a/c.

Those engines look totally unbalanced as tho' the stbd engines are mounted side by side whereas the port ones aren't. If I had draw the A380 [not that I could] from that perspective I would never place the engines that close together I would have placed the stbd outer one further back. :))
In memory of a very dear friend - Mike Pearson

Very fond memories of Robbie Gilvary - DTs 1st Vulcan Captain who taught DT all he knew.

Lovely shots as usual, Andy :ymapplause:
The shot with the two Jumbos hints at the size of the beast. As commented on "the other side", I was totally gobsmacked by how big yet agile the 380 is, lots of people at RIAT just stood there as she flew past, forgetting to take pictures,
Most surprised by the lack of comments and photos too, seems odd :-? :-?
