Don't Fly Chinese Airlines...!!!

Postby Ray C » Mon Jan 20, 2014 11:01 pm

These shots have been sent to me tonight by a "Fellow" aircraft enthusiast.

These are three engines removed from a Chinese Airlines aircraft [i know not what make], However,
after setting off from China the pilot had severe engine turbulence and in fact had to set down at
Frankfurt...[Running Low On Fuel] The German authorities thankfully decided to inspect the problem
engine & as it turned out had not been running for most of the flight,

To their "Horror" seat belt straps and been fitted between turbine blades + most of the engine turbines
were beyond belief.

They decided to inspect all the engines only to find two more in a "shocking state", The aircraft was grounded and would not be released until all three engines were replaced.

I understand the Chinese do not answer to US or European air safety authorities....Is this correct...?

I can confirm this is a load of old B*ll*cks the engine in question (in the pics) is a Pratt & Whitneyfrom before 2004 the chinese have to play by international rules when not in there country no one would fly with that under the wing it would shake the plane to bits!!!! i hate crap like this it makes all the hard work we do in the industry look like a joke trust me when i say the rules are VERY tight indeed!!! and the engine is not even off a chinese aircraft it's an engine from a european plane and its FOD damage. please dont trust what you read in tinternet before doing some reaserch [-x
i am off for a cuppa and to hit some more blades with me big hammer!!!lol

This story has been around since at least 2001.

See Snopes ~ always worth a look before repeating an "unbelievable but true" story.

One Olympus 301 has twice the power of a complete F1 starting grid.
XM655 has four of them, all serviceable.

I wholeheartedly agree with that - also use http://www.hoax-slayer.com/

It's the bane of my life (as a pedant :p ) on Facebook when people circulate and share 'warnings' and 'heads up' and all sorts of other inane junk so they look clever and helpful when in fact it's quite the opposite ;)

I always check Snopes and Hoax Slayer and 99.9 times out of 100 it's bo!!ox :))

PS - not intended as a criticism of you Ray - just an extension of the point ;)

not havin a go at you personally, just a pet hate knowing what checks we have to do to make aero parts seeing stuff circulating like this is just silly! Not even the chinese would try taking that sort of risk and they do have a mega can do attitude.
you would be supprised Ray C that alot of the chinese airlines have very new fleets :-o

even more shocking is the guys at the ends of the runways waiting for bits to fall off so they can weigh them in are having very lean time of it lately and all that carbon fibre is not helping none either! :ymdevil: =))

If you look carefully at the pics, every fan blade has had various items of data written on it before the damage was done. This suggests it was a test engine of some sort, possibly even used for the "chicken cannon" containment test.

The straps are not holding the fan blades on, they are securing the fan to the stator behind it, presumably to prevent further rotation until the engine is stripped for analysis.
