As many of you will know by now, the Cold War Jets open days are now a thing of the past, we had a long run of being able to display our 2 Lightnings both at open days and special photographic events like night shoots.
Earlier this year the airfield owners leased the airfield to Cox Automotive as a vehicle storage site, which resulted in aircraft movements being stopped. The Buccaneers managed to secure other airfield facilities, and have now settled in their new surroundings. The Lightning Q shed is secure as are the 3 Lightnings but they are unable to move from there parked areas now. However work is still being carried out to ensure that the jets are serviceable.
A Cold War Jets museum is now being planned which will be built adjacent to the Q shed and a new entrance to the site is being cleared, it was the old crash gate when the airfield was active, trees are being cleared and the ground prepared for siting many of the jets which are still on the site.
Hopefully one day we will once again be able to open to the public, but for now, those that attended a Lightning fast taxi event will have to live with their memories.
