B-17 with exotic painting

Postby Tony.osborne » Sun Aug 23, 2015 2:31 pm

I share with you some photos of a Boeing B-17 bomber with an exotic and unusual camouflage. Does anyone know if this plane entered service and what the function of this painting? I count on your visit.

Absolutely no idea - strange paint work makes me feel queasy :))
In memory of a very dear friend - Mike Pearson

Very fond memories of Robbie Gilvary - DTs 1st Vulcan Captain who taught DT all he knew.

The B17 with the unusual paint scheme would take off first. The following bombers would use the B17 with the odd paint scheme to form up on before heading to their target.
I don't know if this practice was used by all bomber squadrons, but I do recall a B24 with a similar high visibility scheme.
