Good post.these things are fascinating,apparently there were hundreds of shelters/bunkers etc scattered around the country during the cold war,I read somewhere that you were never more than 5 miles away from some kind of site ! some were just a basic shaft with a phone in the bottom ( painful ) A few years ago I went around the one at Kelvedon Hatch in Essex ,it's entrance is just an ordinary looking detached cottage ( Wargames ) but once you go in it's bloody huge ,loads of rooms below ground,all done up as they would have been,if you ever get a chance to get down one it's well worth it ( as long as you're not claustrophobic )
