ongoing pc problem............

my wifes pc is still, from time to time, freezing at various points.

one option I have yet to try is to swap over the sound and graphics cards and memory from my dead pc to see if that would cure it as I have a hunch one of them could be the culprit, but what do you guys think.

I downloaded Auslogics registry cleaner and it told me that there were 282 junk files and 993 privacy threats, but as her pc is not on the net, than I cannot progress any further than that, I have downloaded the latest version of avast anti virus, but that wont complete the installation as it needs the net to update definitions before running............so that's where I am at the moment.......

Why not connect it to the net to allow the installation to complete? You could block the connection as soon as it is finished if you want to retain the security.

If you swap the 2 items you mentioned, you would probably need to download drivers for them to work - which means going onto the internet unless you have the drivers on disc. Why not just remove the sound card and see if that works, although I would be surprised if that was the culprit. Does the PC have inbuilt graphics on the motherboard as well as a seperate "card" ? If so then removing the graphics card and running on the onboard graphics will be one way of checking. The memory might not be so easy to just "swap" as it would need to be compatable with the motherboard and you cant just remove it and try the PC ! Good luck.

thanks for the replies guys, my old pc and my wifes pc were built by me, they both have separate sound and graphics cards and memory type, so I have drivers for everything, the graphics cards both use the ATI chip, and the sound cards are both creative labs, the memory is all DDR 400mhz.

quick update to this problem, I tried the simple things first by swapping the memory over as it was the easiest option, and problem solved
