windows 7 updates

Postby Sploosher » Tue Aug 02, 2016 9:34 pm

I am having an issue with windows ( 64bit pro ) trying to install an update that is not needed, the driver update is already on my pc,. :-o

If I go into windows/software distribution/downloads there are update files and folders there, one of which is 150,482kb (146mb) in size which is the one in question. :D

I take it as they are just downloaded files, then it is safe to delete them. :)

thanks in advance guys................. ;)

Use a restore point - just choose one before the update...

Upgrade to Windows 10. Beats 7 hands down.

XM655 has four of them, all serviceable.

NNNnnnnnnoooooooooo .... its disorganised - and has followed Windows well tried practice of 'it works well so lets change it dramatically' ...

Windows 7 was pretty good - not brilliant - but it worked ok .... then Windows came up with a ripping wheeze - lets offer our new Windows 10 for FREE but load it with hidden things that help US but NOT the customer .... Lets bombard our customers with constant messages to change to Windows 10 ... then finally add an option to update now or tomorrow with NO other option so you cant get out of it .... lets make it irreversible to even if you hate it you can't go back

Lets add things you can't change, even if you don't like them - lets hide things you were used to finding very easily behind weird menus - lets gather information about what our customers do without them knowing ...

IMHO Windows 10 is not the worst operating system they've ever come up with but its FAR from brilliant and I MUCH prefer 7 and would go back on this one machine I've been tricked into 'upgrading' ... on my others I am still fighting NOT to change.

All a matter of personal taste and what you want from an operating system, of course, but for me the best Microsoft ever produced was XP, which I stuck with for about 12 years.
After that, 7 was a disaster, and 8.1 was even worse. 10 isn't quite back to XP standard, but it works for me. :) :)
It's easy to stop the messages, David, just upgrade. :p :p
And if you are complaining about the messages, you haven't upgraded, so how do you know it is as bad as you claim? :-?

I have 4 machines - 3 on 7 and this 1 on 10 .... hate it :(( :(( Because everyone knows you can't criticise something till you've tried it [-x ;)

Agree with you about XP - excellent OS

3.1 was ok - 95 was ok - 98 was a bit pants but 98SE was much better - ME and 2000 were both total shite - XP was excellent - Vista was another pile of shite - 7 was brilliant - 8.1 was crap and 10 is horrible ~x(

who would have guessed that having asked one simple question would lead this thread to become a slagging match........ :-o

I loved XP, but when my old pc`s motherboard died, the new one I have now bought as a bare bones system, would not boot from XP, so I upgraded to windows 7.

I have now mastered 7 as much as I need to, and have do not want to upgrade to 10, until I really have to......... :)

So, if some one could please answer my original question, then I would be greatful................... :D

True (sadly). :(

Had the same problem when I bought a laptop pre-loaded with Vista, but a local firm produced a boot disc which loaded a suitable HD driver before the OS, so that it would run XP. :)

I don't think deleting the files will do any harm, but the update system is likely to simply download them again. I think the best bet is to set for manual updates and select or reject before going ahead.

Can I refer my learned friend to the answer I gave earlier - Restore point - this will set the machine back to before the update as if it never happened ;) :p

Just like the 'old' days - quite exciting :D :p
