Large format encyclopedia

Postby Jet Morgan » Fri Jan 06, 2012 10:03 am

Dear all,

I'm looking for a large format book (or two. or three..) on different aircraft types, like an encyclopedia. It's obviously* a big subject but I'm especially interested in books on WWII aircraft of all participants, planes of the RAF, post-WWII British jet aircraft either RAF or FAA. I'm looking for books currently in print that don't have to be bid for on ebay and preferably full colour - easy on the text and big on the pictures, a good 'coffee table' volume.

Can anyone help?

Many thanks,

Alex :)

I found a number if not all of my books in garden centres of all places :)) , and they are usually cheaper than the RRP.

I have a lovely book called 'The History of Aviation' by Robert Jackson that I got for £10 from a garden centre. But it's not really an encyclopaedia. But it is a big hardback with good info and lots of colour pictures

But I've also found 'Fighter Aircraft', 'Aircraft of WWII', 'American Aircraft OF WWII' (£4.99), 'The Worlds Greatest Bomber' (£4.99 probably from the same place :)) ) and others that I can't see on my shelf right now :))
I'm sure there must be others better suited to what you're after though.

If you can get to Woodhall Spa there's a nice little book shop with a whole section dedicated to Aviation ;) :))

It's called the Book Fayre I think, but you can't miss it, it's opposite the Dambusters memorial (next to Budgens :)) )
