HA!

One of my Top Ten Movies EVER!

And just COUNT those MITCHELLS!

All REAL, no Special Effects Here!

This film is responsible for there being
so many nice B-25s still in the air!

My Dad LOVED that novel!

So much so, I read it when I was 12!

A lot of it went over my head at that
age, but I think by now I've read it
maybe ten times!

Quite a few differences between text and film though!

My Dad started out as an armo(u)rer on
B-17s, but once they found out he had a
university degree in finance and business
management, he was slid-over into Supply.

He and his buddy Huffnagel, who had an
accounting degree, were put to work as
the semi-official "Traders" for Kimbolton
USAAC Airfield. My Dad never stacked a
single blanket!

Milo Minderbinder in Catch 22 was quite
over-the-top with his trading activities,
but Danforth Senior could still relate to all
of the far-flung barter going on with Milo......

There are SO MANY stories I've heard from
my Dad and from Huffnagel I don't know
where to start! And it all began with a Ten-
Year Supply of 5-pound canned hams from
Dubuque, Iowa.......

The harder they tried to STOP the hams
from being delivered, the MORE they GOT!
This turned into their cornerstone trading
commodity and lead to an EMPIRE (of sorts).

And that is why my Dad loved Catch 22!

D4th Same sort of thing still goes on within the military, BARTERING would be the best way to describe it as CASH NEVER changed hands at soursce! ;) ;) ;) ;)

Crikey I was wondering they were ever going to get airborne.
In memory of a very dear friend - Mike Pearson

Very fond memories of Robbie Gilvary - DTs 1st Vulcan Captain who taught DT all he knew.

1) Yeah, I know, Pam......

Did you get a look at their airspeed indicator
after takeoff??????????

SHEESH!

2) Dave: My Dad and Huffnagel were the authorized
representatives of Kimbolton USAAC Station, and all
was okey-dokey with HM's Gummint as long as no
money changed hands. The people living right around
that area (especially the farmers) Really LIKED this
arrangement, not to mention the other military
installations they could get to by truck or (sometimes)
aircraft on "training missions"......

Some of the goods/foodstuffs/services which were
bartered were quite (...uh) unusual!

Always surprises me that the A10 doesn't stall when the Gatling is fired. :D

Um..................

Lady's Night at the Ramada?????????

I understand it is a tradition, although I
am too old personally to attend........

You know, pre-9/11, I used to have a good
friend in the FAA tower who would give me
a call when there was anything "Good" on the
way, but I don't HAVE that any longer :(( :((

I DO hear you guys, though, because there
ain't ANYTHING ELSE that sounds like a VC-10!

I am not, however, going to go out and jump
in my car in my pajamas to go see your arrival
or departure and that's IT!

Thanks, Mister Tonks!

Always glad to see you on here!
