Daily Mail DVD's 'War in the Air'

Postby 34053 » Sat Nov 07, 2009 3:08 pm

Forgive me if this has already been mentioned elsewhere but, starting today, The Daily Mail is giving away ('Voucher Exchange' at Tesco or W H Smith, or 'Token Collect') six DVD's. I've just got the first one and it's 120 mins running time! Not watched it yet, but it does include the 'Battle for Britain'. The next ones are on Monday through to Friday. Also, for every DVD collected today from Tesco or W H Smith, The Daily Mail is donating 10p to the British Legion Poppy Appeal.

THE FULL COLLECTION OF SIX
AMAZING DVDs FEATURES

Enlarge War In The Air - Disc 1
This episode looks at the preparations for war as the 1930's progressed and the prospect of war became inevitable. Spanning the mid-1930's up to the fall of France in 1940, this DVD also includes details of the formation of the German Luftwaffe in 1935.

Enlarge War In The Air - Disc 2
This episode covers the conflict from Italy's entry into the war in the Summer of 1940 to the establishment of an advance wing of the Desert Air Force in Tripoli in 1942. It also covers the invasion of Crete and celebrates the heroic defence of Malta.

Enlarge War In The Air - Disc 3
From the Spring of 1943 to early 1944, the Allies were pounding Nazi Germany by day and by night. Battling their way through heavily defended skies to deliver their deadly load, RAF Bomber Command took the war to Germany where German civilians paid a terrible price.

Enlarge War In The Air - Disc 4
As the Allies planned for D-Day, it was obvious that air power would have a number of significant roles to play in support of the forthcoming invasion. Significantly, the combined air forces provided tactical air support in establishing the bridgehead on the beaches.

Enlarge War In The Air - Disc 5
Allied air power is now tipping the scales everywhere. This episode covers the spread of them in action; in Norway, in the Ardennes, in Italy, in the Balkans and on the Russian Front. Meanwhile the Luftwaffe are seen to be collapsing almost completely.

Enlarge War In The Air - Disc 6
As Word War II came to an end, a new war in Korea began and new generations of jets clashed as MiGs met Sabres in ever faster dogfights. The Cold Wars were heating up, and Britain needed to develop a new approach in the skies.

Sorry I couldn't get back to you sooner SM (a bit busy today, to say the least!). But you seem to have got all the answers now anyway. What great, helpful people you all are. My grateful thanks.
