Tales from the RAF (for RAF, read Navy!

Postby Canberra Man » Mon Nov 07, 2011 1:16 pm

Hi again.
Towards the end of the war, I had a job as a Naval Messenger on the Grimsby Naval Base HMS Beaver. One day I was stood on the jetty alongside the fleet mail office and a frigate was coming out of dock for patrol. There was lot of signalling going on between the frigate and the Captains Bridge and I asked a CPO near by what was being said. He told me Kittywake has just asked the bridge if jerry had laid any mines in the roads as there was an air raid in the night, the bridge answered we'll soon know, your first out this morning.
