Jack Currie

I don't think this has been posted on here before but forgive me if it has. The Watch Tower was a superb documentary that was made by former Lancaster pilot Jack Currie in the 80's. I have watched it over and over so was pleased to see that this had also been made -

I really enjoyed that........

A storyteller like that must have some
Welsh in there, I think ;)

I also couldn't help but wonder how many
of them were kept aloft by Merlins made
by Packard in Motown, Detroit, USA :D

So many Lancs were Packard-Powered.....

Sorry, I just had to mention it :)

I have no self-control :ymblushing:

D4th, Irish actually, Currie is the Scots mis-spelling of the Irish name Curry. :D

Not too many Packards to Lancs I think, didn't start making them until the Mustang came on stream post '43 ish and Lanc Merlins were not as powerful were they? :)

Wasn't Mr Currie a very British gentleman? So modest and matter of fact about all they did and what happened to them. Reminds me of my Dad who had that same manner. A lost breed, we shall not see their like again, makes me proud of the English blood flowing in me Irish/Welsh veins, :D

All B-III Lancs were Packard Powered, and I
think this was the most numerous type...

Plus all the Canadian-built ones.....

Packard Merlins began to arrive in England
in early 1942, as I remember....

PMCC made almost 56,000 Merlins, and I
believe more went into Lancs than any
other British aircraft, so you do the math :)

I get a rough figure of just over 4,000
aircraft built....

I'm just proud we had a part in such an
historic and iconic bomber :ymapplause:

You aren't going to make me tell
the tale of Packard's improvements
to the Merlin yet again, are you????????

It's a story you Brits seem all too eager
to forget......
