Timberland JB 534 Memorial

A Memorial plaque will be unveiled by Friends of Metheringham Airfield on Saturday at Timberland Fen at 14.30hrs, just one mile from the end of the main runway of wartime base of RAF Metheringham.

The Lancaster JB534 was in the circuit, when it dived to avoid another aircraft immediately ahead, after returning from an 8hr mission to Berlin. 5 of the 7 crew died and 2 were seriously injured. 1 of those who survived was killed 4 months later over Germany.

Went to have a little look on Sunday, it's a road we use quite regularly so it wasn't too hard to find, although it is in the middle of know where on a gate post, so you have to keep your eyes open for it. But It's nice to see them remembered!

The entrance way to the field is where the bulk of the wreckage came to a stop.



That road is getting pretty bad due to subsidence.

I knew that it crashed in the field but I didn't know that's where it came to rest

It gets worst every time we go down it, especially the bit just past the houses, but it makes a nice scenic route coming from Waddington.
