It's arrived .... Corgi Limited Edition Mk1a Spitfire

Postby Spitfire » Thu Aug 26, 2010 8:28 pm

It's an early birthday present that I ordered before telling anyone they were getting it for me ....as I didn't want to miss it :p ;)

So here we go ......

The basic statistics first. (I only work in old money so you may have to do some conversions :p )

Scale 1:32

The box is 15" x 17" x 6"

The Plane is 14" span & 11.5" long

It's all metal and weighs 1lb 10ozs without the stand and 2lb 5ozs with the stand.

Underneath - wheels can be up or down

Best till last .....

Bob Doe in his office with the doors closed

Image

And here he is with the canopy and door open

Yes I know the door is hinged wrong and there's no red crowbar inside the door - but a bit of licence is allowed even for a purist :D

It is absolutely excellent quality throughout - I was astounded at the weight - All the flying surfaces move and the detail is brilliant.

By FAR the best model I've ever owned and just so evocative as its a MK 1a and REAL Battle Of Britain material.

A real tribute to Bob Doe http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Doe

Corgi Model

I thoroughly and wholeheartedly recommend it :D

I have a Bf109 up in the loft that could shoot it down!

As always - XPL is ready with a positive and helpful comment to move things along :(

Its the70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain - this brilliant model commemorates Flying Officer Bob Doe and the brilliant MK1a Spitfire he flew ... and you have a Bf109 in the loft that could shoot it down - thanks ~x(

Worth EVERY penny (to me ;) ) :-B - I have had a total love affair with the early Mark Spitfires for most of my 57 years and this model just sums it all up in one for me.
The young lads (and they WERE young lads) who flew in the Battle Of Britain in these machines have always been an inspiration to me :-@
Plus the fact that Reginald Mitchell was a genius :-BD
