Chris Golds Models

Postby Spitfire » Wed Apr 21, 2010 6:25 pm

I take a magazine called 'Quiet & Electric Flight International' and there's a chap who regularly contributes called Chris Golds - apparently ex RAF.

He is renown for his astonishingly detailed own design and scratch built models and recently there was a picture of his new VC10 with 4 electric ducted fans - but complete with refueling rig!!

Couldn't find any pics on the net so scanned these out of the mag - so sorry for the poor quality .....

The refueling hoses are actually fixed wire so they don't flap about - and the Jaguar GR1s are lightweight balsa chuck gliders which had a mind of their own when towed so hence the fixed 'hoses' ..... but doesn't it look effective in the air??

Chris Golds is well known for other equally brilliant models .... Tornado

And so it goes on ... Here's some pics from an article about a brilliant Sea Vixen from the same magazine - again sorry about quality ... note the use of blue foam in the build to lighten construction but keep structural integrity ;)
The Vixen is bungee launched from a foot operated cradle he uses - throttles closed - bungee at full stretch - press the release pedal - and as it passes the end of the launch ramp jam the throttles wide open - and away she goes :D

The man certainly has a tremendous talent, nice sleeveless anorak too!

TSR-2 simply got the first 3 right. ”
