Giant Vickers VC10 Airliner. Filmed in UltraHD and 4K

This giant VC10 has a wingspan of 4.9 metres and length of 5.75 metres. Total weight is 63 kgs. The model is powered by 4 Wren Super Sport micro gas turbine engines each of which has 18 lbs of thrust.

Impressive though it is you can model these things in exquisite detail and they look pretty realistic in the air but they never take off and land like a full size ... cos you can't scale down the wind and air flow and you haven't scaled down the all up weight of the full size..

Very noticeable on this plane - took off far too quickly and was fluttering like a leaf on landing and far too steep an approach ... As I say damned impressive to look at though. :ymapplause:

Just my opinion as a pedantic but long time scale plane model maker - and possessor of a 1/10 Mk5 Spitfire and Fokker Eindecker both of which will fly nothing like the real thing ;) :p :D

I guess there's a limit to how realistic the flight of a model can be David. I think the pilots do try as much as possible but you are right, the forces on the model are significantly different to that on a full size. Nonetheless huge achievement to build and fly a model like this. Wish I had the time and skills to pour into something similar. I'm lucky if I get time to put an ARF together. Tend to buy good second hand models when they come up.
