Chromate Merlin at St Mawgan - query

This Merlin was shooting approaches at St Mawgan last week and I wondered what the black areas are around the rear undercarriage sponsons?

I'm not sure, could it be a treatment sprayed on or some form of undercoat on top of the etch primer?

Is this one of the Indian aircraft.
