Brize Norton Families Day

Postby MOD » Sat Sep 15, 2012 10:07 pm

Today was a unique experience for me. I have attended numerous Families Days, at various USAFE Bases and RAF Air Stations, for over 30 years but I have never attended one where absolutely NOTHING FLEW... (apparently because of the costs involved)... :-o

Today was also "Battle of Britain Day" but you would never have guessed this as you fought your way between the funfairs and charity stalls etc.

There were only half a dozen static aircraft on display: a VC10 XV108, a C17 ZZ171, a TriStar ,a Herc ,a visiting King Air and a Chinook. The Voyager was not present as it is in Cyprus apparently - until tomorrow (Sunday) morning.

Brize Norton is the UK's largest Air Station and one would have thought that 'Battle of Britain Day' would have warranted a somewhat better effort.

You GRUMPY old man! :p

The Chinook flew, came over the field nicely and the B52 was lovely in the early evening light! :-o

Music was good and the company too! ;)

I was well grumpy when I got home. Wife had to help me out of the car - my back has gone again :(

I did enjoy the day, what I saw of it, and I saw the Chinook leave but was disappointed there was nothing flying. The last Families Day in 2010 was superb but that Station Commander has now moved on.

Did Mike enjoy himself?
