French Warbird display 1991

Postby MOD » Sat Oct 20, 2012 8:51 pm

I have just found (well Mrs Mod did!) several boxes of slides from this French Warbird airshow from the 18th August 1991 at a little airfield just outside Villeneuve sur Lot. This was the one and only time an airshow had been held at this private flying club.
I wangled a Press pass by ringing the Flying Club's President, whose name I had seen on a poster in a butcher's shop in Domme south of the Dordogne (where I was on holiday).

My thanks to "Warbirds" magazine for actually returning these slides more or less intact. (Those of you who used to send slides to magazines will know how rare an event this was).

For me this is the best Era for warbirds, they seemed to be more dynamic displays.
Where did you find the updated info MOD?

Mostly I use Airliners.net and I have a list of sites (too numerous to mention) where I follow particular warbird/historic aircraft users.

MUCH!

I especially like the fact they haven't
over-restored this aircraft...

I'm sure it's mechanically excellent,
but the patina on this old workhorse
is what makes the "look" so superb!

I know just what you mean D. Not unduly surprising though when you think that it has been through more hands than Joan Collins... :-o

Lovely set Mod thanks - wasn't there a navy blue skyraider on the Brit circuit mid to late 90s flown by a smallish chap with a handlebar moustache? IIRC it was around the time Gary Newman was flying.

Hi Pam, thanks.

The Skyraider you saw was probably this one which was doing the Airshow circuit, in 1993 anyway, when I took this shot at Blackburn's of Brough E Yorks. It was operated by Jean Salis and carried the civilian serial F-AZED. It was later sold to Kennet Aviation. Unfortunately I don't know who the pilot was but I will keep looking.

I can't see his moustache in this shot. :D

EDIT: BTW who posted the banner shot of the TSR2 which was at the top of this page? Just out of interest. ;)

That looks pretty much like it, Ian thanks, I just remember it being everywhere at every airshow, at least it appeared to be. :))
