Guppy at Manchester 1983

Postby Skudupnorth » Sun Oct 21, 2012 3:40 pm

Here are couple of aircraft taken at Manchester (Ringway) in 1983 when we used to see them very regular and sadly took this beast for granted
First up F-BTGV landing 13/11/83 over the tunnel taken from the Brickworks which was always busy when they were using this end.

Next we have F-GDSA taking off from the opposite end but still using a lot of runway fully loaded with a pair of Airbus wings from Chester, again taken from the Brickworks on the 19/6/83

Found a couple of F-BPPA but no more of #1 again taken at Ringway in 1981 with an earlier colour scheme

I do like that scheme, very 70's

When we were keying #1 we found evidence of that livery

Credit to you and the team for looking after what must be classed as the Forth Bridge of aircraft ! I am going to try and dig out some more pictures of the Guppy's in my many prints from years of living at Ringway.....well thats what my parents thought anyway ! I even have a picture of the wings arriving on transporter around the back of Ringway.......somewhere !

Nice historic shots, I recall seeing it going overhead and thinking how slow it was travelling, always appeared to be struggling.

Thanks for posting.

Glad you like them, pity i do not have a slide scanner or i would flood the site with more gems ! These were scanned from original prints. You are right in thinking how they looked like they were struggling to fly,i once saw one land with a cross wind.......very interesting nose first landing that day !
