Lens "Up-Grade"

Iv'e done a trade in with Ffords, Part exe'd my Minolta Reflex 500mm fixed, for a Sigma 120-400..
I wanted a more [flexible lens], So fingers crossed this combination will bring good results.

Your info is right it seems....However, my wife has bought me some extensive photography lessons "What A Love".
My tutor has confirmed this situation of "Softening" at 400...but if I drop back to 375-350 using 24 mil pixels i
can "Crop" out the effect...Anyway When it stops bloody raining & we get better days I will post some of my
efforts.....

I've just recently in the last couple of months bought the Sigma 120-400 as well. Cracking lens it has to be said and mine is sharp all the way through, even at 400mm. Compared to the 100-400L I've used for a long time, there really is very little in it image quality wise. The newest Sigma lenses are really cracking the image quality test, 100% improvement on their older lenses.

You can see where its cut a few corners, lack of focus limit for example, but the IS is better than the 100-400L and my particular copy is 99% as sharp all for half the cost! I got mine direct from HK and saved a bit of cash!

Its Marwells new male tiger, he's only just over 18 months old so still got a lot more growing to do! He's very big already as you can see. Lovely markings too.

Gentlemen, what build data do you have? If TDC gets one then there might be a build date after which they are indeed sharp throughout the range.

Mine is brand spanking!! Only a couple of months old.

Most with the new satin type finish should be good. The older EX finish can be a bit hit and miss, but for the money they are you cant really complain.

Its Marwells new male tiger, he's only just over 18 months old so still got a lot more growing to do! He's very big already as you can see. Lovely markings too.

he looks great, I try to get to the Yorkshire wildlife park as often as I can, they have (hopefully) a breeding pair............

I don't have a lens in that zoom range, but I do have a 500 a/f mirror lens which really helps..........quite fancy the new Tamron 150-600 zoom that has just been released , but sadly don't have the funds

Try reading the thread on Talk Photography in the 'talk equipment section', there are a lot of issues with focus tracking at full extension. Static shots at 600mm appear to be ok but there are problems with moving objects.
