We need to bring forward the next stage of fatigue life extension modifications from winter 2010-11 to this winter; this is because we have experienced a higher than expected fatigue life consumption rate. There are two modifications: strengthening of the front spar bottom boom (Mod 2429), and strengthening of the landing light aperture (Mod 2430).
If I am correct in my beliefs, Mod 2429 was never embodied in service life on any Vulcan & I also think I'm right in saying that they never got as far a drawing up the paperwork for it either [so I'm sure it won't be a 5 minute job as nothing to do with aviation ever is] - so does anyone know how many manhours it will take & what is involved once that paperwork is completed?
I assume [dangerous I know] that part of the aircraft needs to be de-skinned to allow access & who will carry out the work MA or VTST engineers?
