The obvious question is:

"Where'd he GET it???"

LThe majority of Vulcans went to scrap as did the engines so probably from a scrapyard.

Without trying to be too much of a killjoy, that may well be a part of a Marine Olympus, a Civil Olympus or any other Olympus varient, trading off 558's recent resurgence!

Beware folks, all is not always what it seems!!!!! ;)

Um, wouldn't ten kilos of Titanium be worth a lot more than £30 as scrap? I have no idea if you can take it to the local scrappy though?

It's not titanium, that's why! ;) :D :D

Looking a little deeper into it, it appears to be an LP compressor rotor disc, and at 19" the size supports that too. The LP compressor rotor blades would slot into the 'Fir Tree Root' keyways that you see on the picture, and the blades would be retained by the spacer rings which are bolted either side, upon build, to form eventually the whole LP compressor assembly.

The LP comp rotor discs are made of aluminium alloy, with the HP comp rotor discs being of steel construction. No titanium in sight!! Titanium is actually pretty rare in aero engine construction anyhow, with 'Nimonic' Nickel-Steel alloys being used for most high temp, high stress applications. At only 10kg for a 19" diameter and 3" thick chunk of metal, the weight gives it away too!! :D :D

Right, I'm going to stop being quite so boring now and have a nice cup of tea!! :p

Thanks for the info Ron - your explanation is not boring at all (quite the opposite) :D . It's nice to find out what these 'bits and pieces' did in a previous life - or whether the are actually genuine.

Keep the info coming mate - we all appreciate it here :D

I hope that use of ANORAK is as a term of endearment!
