Can't read the topic on FC. Have to sign up. There is only one runway at Coningsby, or am I wrong. If it is shut, where will the other aircraft land (BBMF/Typhoons etc)

Really I didn't realise that.

There is another runway the Lanc had to use it earlier.

The trouble is if the QRA Typhoons need that one and she's blocking they will simply drag her off on the grass so they'll move her asap. Incidentally QRA was up yesterday for a Nigerian C130 no-one was expecting that landed at Cambridge.

I bow to your superior knowledge :|. I could only see a long one on Google Earth. Saw a short one at an angle but didn't realise that it was a runway. Hope everything is OK with the aircraft and it is easily fixed.

Anyone know what is the nature of the emergency?

And the Nigerian C-130 sounds like a whole other
story!

What's up with that?

Someone defecting or seeking assylum?

Dan4th.
It was a Hydraulic Problem.
Don't know about the C-130.

Well, hydraulics means either control
surfaces or landing gear, so lets hope it
was only a bum indicator light!

Surprised there's no info re: C-130.....

I am very happy, though, that 558 is
down Safe!!!!!!

The Nigerian C130 was expected sometime but not yesterday :)) - I believe they had a radio failure too but on Thursday or Friday there was a bombing at a UN facility so they took no chances.

Minty the other run way is a short one, too short for 558 and I suspect the Typhoons

D4th - evidenlty her wheels were down a long way out [first thing they would do] but they apparently requested confirmation they were down 3-4 times.

hydraulics means either control
surfaces or landing gear

Flying surfaces on a Vulcan are all independent of the aircraft's main and emergency hydraulic systems - it has ten electrically powered, hydraulically actuated powered flying control units (PFCUs) - these each have a separate and independent source of hydraulic oil in the units.

The hydraulic system is relatively limited on the aircraft being responsible for brakes, undercarriage raising/lowering, nosewheel steering, AAPP scoop and bomb doors. The emergency (electrically powered) hydraulic system only operates the brakes and the bomb doors. For emergency lowering of the undercarriage there is a nitrogen 'blow down' system, which simultaneously blows out the contents of the hydraulic system!

The main hydraulic system is powered by separate engine driven hydraulic pumps on three of the four Olympus engines - nominally giving plenty of redundancy.

Nothing more as yet RHV - all seems to have gone quiet for the time being. Your explaination is good, better than my attempt on tvoc :))

Update: Taff reports that the engineers have now replenished the hydraulic system and fault finding is underway. Most support equipment is already in place with lifting jacks now enroute on a flat bed lorry from Doncaster. More information when possible.
