XM603 delivery to Woodford 1982

Postby Skudupnorth » Mon Feb 13, 2012 3:31 pm

Seeing as the future is good for 603 i thought it would be good to share some photo's i took on the day she was delivered to Woodford on March 12th 1982.These are just scanned off the old prints themslves and taken with a trusty (but heavy) Zenith EM camera. The ones taken airside were a last minute "should we or should'nt we" climb the fence to join in ! Me and my friend locked our bikes up and managed to grap a few pictures before we were collared and asked to leave.......well worth the risk but would have been hard to explain to our school if we had been arrested ! :)

Thank You Mister Skud!

What a great memory for you :)

Does anyone know who were the aircrew
doing the delivery that day?

Was a good day even though the weather was touch and go.Not sure on the aircrew names,i'm sure they were put on the crew door when she was painted white. So happy her future is bright.
I thought i had lost these photo's so i am so pleased to have found them the other day and now share them with everyone.

The mixed BAe/RAF crew that delivered Avro Vulcan B2 XM603, formerly of No 44 (Rhodesia) Squadron, to Woodford aerodrome in March 1982.

? Lazzels, Terry Mitchell, Bob Pogson, Charles Masefield - Executive Director-Production for the Manchester Division of British Aerospace and former Chief Test Pilot, Ted Hartley, Sqn Ldr Joe L'Estrange, Wg Cdr Simon Baldwin - OC 44(R) Sqn.

Bob Pogson bailed out of Vulcan B1 XA891 in 1959.

I believe Sqn Ldr Joe L'Estrange was at the wheel when XM655 flew into Wellesbourne

It's a Vulcan, not a bl00dy Victor, you know. :)) :))

Yes, Sqn Ldr L'Estrange did fly XM655 from Waddo to Wellesbourne on her last flight.

To the best of my knowledge Barry doesn't have any brothers
In memory of a very dear friend - Mike Pearson

Very fond memories of Robbie Gilvary - DTs 1st Vulcan Captain who taught DT all he knew.

Significantly less than a Victor. :ymapplause: :ymapplause:

But significantly further before the wings fell off. :p

Here's a pix of XM603 Streaming at Waddington in 1978 - Note she was a 50 Sqn a/c at the time and one I spent many hours working on.
