fascinating, although it has now been accepted that Heathrow had no strategic advantage as a wartime airfield, as the locals were told. it was a sneaky way to build a future international airport with the minimum of opposition

A few years back I flew Boston to Phoenix with
a stop in St Louis. The St Louie airport also has
parallel runways but uses them the opposite of
Heathrow. I was seated on the Starboard side
of the aircraft, and during final I looked over
and there was another TWA 727 "Flying Garbage
Truck" just like the one I was flying on, also on
final and right at our speed and altitude.......

It was just hypnotic watching that identical
airliner right next to us as it touched down
and smoked the tires and did exactly what we
were doing almost like a mirror image. I'm
terrible at gauging distances, but I suppose
we had to have been separated by the legal
number of feet. It seemed really close, though.......

Anyhow, I'll never forget it! My son, on the
other hand, was completely unimpressed.

KIDS!
