And I see that piece of rope's still hanging off

Anyone figured out what it is and what it's for yet?

Didn't I have a theory that it was something to do with the calibration of the pitch angles, maybe even yaw as well. There was a link to a 'paper' on it by the RAE in the UK. I noticed today on a prog about the Eurobus A380, that the test aircraft had the 'rag on a bit of rope' on the fin as well when having a bash at the 'swimning pool' test.

Yeah, I had an idea too about it being some sort
of marker for still photography........

I was HOPING one of our forumeers who actually
works in aeronautics would tell us something at
least semi-authoritative.

You know, it doesn't really look electronic at all....
It just looks like a rope with a rag tied to it
hanging off the back of the tail!

I like to do my planning retroactively!

The SIMPLE ideas are the BEST!
"All modern aircraft have 4 dimensions: span, length, height and politics.
TSR-2 simply got the first 3 right. ”
