L749A N1206 At Salina, KS

Postby Round_engine » Sat Jul 18, 2009 12:47 am

I've updated my conniesurvivors website with a news article on recent visit with Gordon Cole in Salina, KS. Had a fun three days turning wrenches and getting dirty working on N1206!

Ralph

Thanks for that RE!

Nothing like a little dirt under the fingernails, eh?

Just out of curiosity, what sort of sparkplugs does
a Connie get? I assume they're not automotive....

Oh, and your photos are superb, as usual!

absolutely fascinating Round Engine - thanks for keeping us up-to-date! :ymapplause:

this line intrigued me...

...goal of getting Constellation N1206 back in the air this year...

:-o

after 42 years (!) sat out there, is there REALLY a chance she'll fly this year? i know she looks in remarkably good condition for her age, but surely all those years would mean a much deeper strip-down and rebuild?

or i it just testament to the brilliance of Lockheed's original design?

all very exciting i must say! \:D/

sm

PS - not overly keen on the interior of USAF Connie - i thought it was the Ruskies who painted their a/c interiors that dreadful (apparently soothing!) colour?

There is lots of work to be done to get her in the air this year not to speak of the expense involved. This is essentially a one man funded project and he is looking for sponsors to aid the cause. Getting her out of Salina this year on a ferry flight to another location would probably be judged a success. The airport wants to develop the land where the Connie is parked so she won't be sitting there for another 42 years! As for sparkplugs Dan4th, they are run of the mill aviation sparkplugs that look very much like the ones in my Debonair.

Ralph
