I thought they'd fixed that by the time
this one came out? Of course, the damage
had already been done in the mind of "The
Public At Large"......

Lockheed Electra II suffered a similar fate,
and became a great aircraft that many
wouldn't fly on. On that one, it turned out
that the vibration frequency of the turboprops
and the wings matched precisely under certain
crucial conditions. Hard to foresee, easy to
fix, but doomed the aircraft in the Public Mind.

Problems like that, although disastrous at the time, make it safer to fly.

What are the chances of seeing one in the air again? would the CAA allow it?

It was looking promising for Canopus a few years ago, but someone told me there was a problem with mis-matched Avons? Think the CAA were on-side and there was even a proposal to paint her back in BOAC livery, but whatever the stumbling block was, it wasn't overcome.

Where's Canopus's electrician when you need him, eh? Mr P?! ;)
