incredible machines!

changed air-travel forever!

I've spent many happy years wandering around under 747s at LGW/LHR - they never ceased to impress me! B-)

I remember flying to New York from Heathrow in 1970 as a teenager -I was in a TWA 707 and we were queuing on a taxiway to take off and there was a delay - the pilot asked if anyone wanted to come up to the cockpit to see 'one of the new Jumbo Jets' and I went up ... looking out of the front windows all I could see was wheels and jokingly said - 'so where is it'... the captain says - 'Up there' .. pointing up ... we were parked UNDER its tail =)) =))

I know what you mean. It always amazes me how they get in the air, but after seeing the A380 at Farnborough the 747 is just a pup. :D

one little tale i recall during my time at LGW was a visit by a 747SP - the shortened one...

Image

i'd never seen one before, and i forget which airline it was, but it was the official transport of the President of somewhere like Malaysia. i got on board and was surrounded by tiny little oriental women - not one of them over 4' 10" =))

to cap it all off, one offered me a drink - then brought me a half-height can of Coke! =))

even the sick bags were tiny - i began to wonder if I'd stumbled into Gulliver's world =))
