try again - first effort disappeared .

nice photos Neil., brings back memories.

If my memory is correct (doubtful) then 'VYC & D were part of the order for 5 aircraft for Channel Airways who were based at Southend at that time (but moved to Stansted once they started operating jets). They only took delivery of 'VYB & E and @c & 'D went to these operators and I believe VYA went to Cyprus airways who ended up with several others later on.

I've got a photo somewhere of 'WZK at Heathrow around 1990 at a BA staff & familes day which I was lucky enough to get invited to. It was doing pulled trips around the maintenance area to raise funds for the Dreamflight charity for sick children. That was the last time I ever went on a moving Trident!

Andy, yes Channel did indeed order 5 aircraft but due to finance problems the order was reduced to just two aircraft. Two aircraft went onto BKS/Northeast and the other went to Air Ceylon. The only oddball aircraft to go to Cyprus Airways were two ex Kuwait airways Trident 1E's.

Ex Kuwait airways Trident 1E-101 9K-ACH at Hatfield after repaint into CY livery and re regd 5B-DAE.
Image

Kuwait Airways first 1E was G-ASWU and was infacft the first 1E to be built, after serving with the airline this aircraft went onto serve with Cyprus Airways.

Image

Trident 1E G-ASWU back at LHR in 1977,this aircraft and Duxford's G-AVFB were rescued from Nicosia after being stuck there due to the Turkish invasion in 1974 sadly 5B-DAE was destroyed beyond repair.

Thanks Neil - I remember it now, I saw it at a Hatfield open day painted and looking very smart - found this pic of it on airliners.net:
http://www.airliners.net/photo/Air-Ceyl ... 7047daea82

I knew it went to a country beginning with C but memory wasn't quite good enough to get the whole country correct!

I'd forgotted then Kuwait ones, such a long time ago.

edit - 'VFB was the one used for the autoland trials wasn't it?
BTW - I posted a topic about the trident preservation on my superguppy forum in the 'other preservation projects' section so updates would always be welcome from somebody 'in the know':

Did Tridents operate from Southampton airport in the early 70's ?

Only ask - as I always remember what looked like a Trident flying (noisely I may add) over my school at about 4pm everyday.
Look Mummy.. there's an aeroplane up in the sky.....

Have you got any shots of G-AYVF?

As requested G-AYVF...

Rotating from Hatfield runway 06 on a test flight.Displaying the unique landing gear retraction sequence.

Victor Fox at Manchester.

For info this aircraft had the out of sequence registration the same as first Trident 3B off the production line this was to be G-AWZY but this was found to be confusing so the aircraft became G-AWYZ thus the 26th Trident 3B became G-AYVF.

I never photographed Airliners except for Concorde and I would have taken shots of a Constellation, if the opportunity had ever arisen.

However these are seriously good photos Neil, of a bygone era. ;)
