Careers in aviation....

Postby XM607 » Thu Jun 17, 2010 8:31 pm

Well it's a pretty odd situation I'm in here. I'm 26, nearly 27, have worked in the motor trade since I was 17 (parts advisor) and have a GNVQ in IT.

I love aeroplanes and aviation (I love cars too, but the motor trade is generally NOT the trade to be in!). I used to dream of becomming a pilot (if I didn't have commitments and kids I'd look into the RAF now) but I'm aware there are many other fulfilling roles apart from pilots, ground crew, ATC etc.
I live near Southampton airport, but am struggling to find information on what possible positions exsist, let alone any actual vacancies.

I was wondering if anyone on here is based in aviation, and what advice/suggestions anyone might have if they can spare the time. I've had enough of doing what I'm doing and am aware life is speeding by quicker than I'm reacting, so need to react now.

Thanks

We didn't all attend the Jeremy Clarkson school of maintenance, you know. ;)

One Olympus 301 has twice the power of a complete F1 starting grid.
XM655 has four of them, all serviceable.

It's still worth going into your local RAF recruitment station and seeing what they have on offer. I know there are plenty of 9-5 type jobs with the RAF.

Last year I applied for a Ground Control Support job at Brize Norton which was Mon - Fri 8-4. No experience needed although on the training day I was the only one who knew what a VC-10 was :)) I did get offered the job but quickly had that taken away when they mentioned I needed a car license :(

Have a look at small local strips as well and any aviation businesses on site like parts suppliers.

Well learn to drive woman.............. ;) ;)

Should not be too hard for you to 'convert' from 2 to 4 wheels. You already have all the cognitive skills it's just about changing the method of control (and remembering that when you come to a stop you no longer have to put a foot down) =)) =)) =))

If you decide to then PM me and although you are too far from me (and vice versa) my help and advice over the phone/web is free. :)

Cheers Nickolas! It's more the 'small' matter of learning to drive costing more than a shiny new motorbike that has put me off for the last 12 years :ymdevil: I'll get there one day ;)

Here you go XM607, have a browse, there's plenty you can do as you have good qualifications and are still young! Just enter your details in the jobmatch part and see what's on offer and get applying! :D
