Looks like the tail skid warning lights have been raised to the top of the windscreen. Anyone know why?

They were certainly there when we started the restoration and we did not do any mod on that system.

just checked on one of DT's Cockpit videos & against his Vulcan manual.

They have at some point according to the manual been turned 90degs & raised - and were like that in the video, just not sure how old the video is.

However this pic was taken in the VDF days & was used in the 1995 calendar DT produced

I wonder if it is so that they can be clearly seen from the right hand seat, which is where DT seems to prefer to be.

The lights in 655 are lower and side by side, and are visible to P1 but I'm not sure P2 has a decent view of them.

It's easy to see the difference with adjacent pictures in the Haynes manual. Page 82 has a cockpit drawing, and beside it on page 83 is a photo of 558.

It may be when 558 was a tanker the skip was much nearer to the ground and those warning lights are in line of sight in that position.

It's about 80degs of bank to the left, taken on display by the nav standing between the seats..shows the limited view quiet well through the letter box

Not modified to suit pilot preference, not even for the illustrious DT. I wondered if it might have been something to do with the tanking role, so it could be seen sooner before you ground off the HDU??

Well, that's the same suggestion coming from Crew Chief, DB and DT.

With that provenance, it MUST be right. :))
