Micro RC Helicopters

I realise these really are toys, rather than models, but still...

This 39 year old child really fancies treating himself to a new toy: Torn between the following two:

I'm tending towards the alloy one on the basis that it's probably stronger, and slightly cheaper...Saying that, the Air Wolf one looks pretty cool... B-)

I bought a micro-copter about 2 years ago and it was the pits. Controls were poor and controllability very difficult so I hope they are more functional now. And, yes, if you blew on it it would be uncontrollable. I always felt they were gimmick toys, but perhaps they are more than that now, although these days £20 isn't going to buy you very much, is it?

No, I agree, £20 isn't much...

My Dad bought one of the early micro rc's a couple of years back, and as you say, virtually uncontrollable. I was given one for my birthday a few months after that, and had the same problem. In fact, I broke it within a few hours of getting it, although a forced landing into a sink full of pots didn't help... =))

But my brother in law has recently given my son his old one, which although it has had a fair bit of use, is far more stable and controllable than either of the first two were, which is what has set me thinking...

I've done a little research, and found that the latest generation of micro rc's are more controllable. And if you click on the video link for the Airwolf one, that certainly seems to be the case. Assuming it's genuine of course... Still, if it turns out to be crap, £20 will hardly beak the bank... ;)

Your last sentence neatly summarises it. But I think I'd spend my £20 on better crap! ;)

I think that was the problem - I had to leave the front door and the back door open, for obvious reasons, so the rush of air through the house did for the micro-copter.

I can't think what you mean - I eat and get rid of my "five-a-day" on a regular basis. :ymdevil: :ymdevil:

Got dragged around a shopping centre the other day by the wife. Popped into a shop called Mankind (I dare say they're all over the country) where they were selling a micro Apache reduced to £16.99 from £24.99. It's now mine... \:D/ They'd also got a 'Flying f**k', which was rather amusing...but anyway!
Flies quite well, although it's still quite tricky to get it to do exactly what you want. Already torn off both of the side mounted missile launchers! :-o

We've also got a new branch of Model Zone just opened. Boy, could I spend a few quid in there!

Think I smacked it into the wall a few too many times... :-o Won't hover properly now, sort of darts around. Nothing is broken, and I can't see anything obviously wrong, but something somewhere must be out of true. ~x( Shame, because when it wasn't crashing into doors and walls it flew really well. Certainly better than the original ones.

Oh well, it lasted four days, which is three longer than the first one I had. =))

Seems about right.

Boy = "need to decide"
Girl = "every pair in the shop"
Sooty

One Olympus 301 has twice the power of a complete F1 starting grid.
XM655 has four of them, all serviceable.
