WOW!

"Police cars were flying up the runway. There were four fire engines, paramedics, a helicopter."

Another passenger, Mark Bell, from Bracknell, said: "I knew something was wrong when we took off.

"The plane was really wobbly. The cabin crew made things worse. They were all really panicked.

Nice to see some on board realised there was a problem and that the EMERGENCY Services reacted well! :D

Tom Alridge said one of the cabin crew panicked upon landing.

"She was screaming like a banshee - 'Get off, get off' - she was literally pushing people down the chute," he said.

~x( ~x( ~x( ~x( ~x(

So she was doing exactly what she has been trained to do, and as they all got off she was doing it well.

The reported problem was smoke in the cabin, so the primary risk was fire. Don't these idiots remember how many burned to death in the Manchester Airtours disaster because the evacuation wasn't quick enough?

XM655 has four of them, all serviceable.

Sooty, these aircraft are just airborne cattle trucks and as such were carrying cattle, they will have ignored the safety briefing and that annoying little card in the seatback in front of you and then can't work out what all the fuss is about! :-o

Strangely enough, passengers were always reffered to as SELF LOADING FREIGHT in the RAF! :D

Virgin Atlantic (used) to have a pretty good safety video, and the only times I have flown (with Virgin both times) I have always read the booklet (please don't tar us all with the same brush).
As far as I'm concerned, my life is in their hands, there fore I make it my responsibility to know what is expected of me in a situation like this.
I don't understand why others don't see it that way.

I don't want to speculate on the injuries sustained, but it does make me wonder, if everyone had gone down that chute like you're told too, no one should have been hurt.
I always thought that the crew were trained to keep calm in these situations, not "screaming like a banshee" or what ever that man says happened.

I'm just glad it got down safely :ymapplause: and hope those with injuries heal fast.

They're trained to get everyone out of the aircraft down the slides within 90 seconds - and that means raised voices!

Here's a quote from PPRuNe on this subject this afternoon:
Now im sorry but im cabin crew myself, and our policy with regards to evacuating the aircraft is to evacuate the aircraft ASAP after we've heard the evacuation command. We dont care about whether there is a pile of passengers at the bottom of the slide, people need to get off quickly. As we all know an evacuation of an aircraft should be made within 90 seconds of that evacuation call, and whats with the guy on the BBC website interview saying the crew were screaming to get people off... they aint gonna be asking people nicely are they??!!!! They did a bloody good job i say to evacuate that big bird as they did with only 4 slight injuries. Good job to all involved.

Anyway, well done to aircrew and cabin crew on a good job bloody well done with minimum damage to the SLF. As for the moaning from some interviewed by the 'meeja' about this emergency, which apparently involved either fire or smoke (both of which things don't mix with flying), then "dry your eyes Princess"....

I always read the leaflet whilst others are reading their newspapers. The only times I haven't was on a holiday to Peru and I smiled at the spiel
"You will probably be flying on a different aircraft and certainly in a different seat"
All our internal flights were pre-booked with the same seat allocations and always the same aircraft.

Blimey, sorry I spoke :p :D :D , I was only commenting on what the people they interviewed were saying, I wasn't saying what the cabin crew were doing was wrong or anything :ymapplause: .
