Sorry about that Dave :p I have converted a bit of my hangar in the roof for making models, I have even built a spray booth with an extractor fan for when I do the air brushing. It looks like I will have to re arrange the shelving up there for some of the bigger models I am making/to make as I do not think they will fit in the small bedroom/my study come display room, I am envious of my eldest daughter and son-in-law as hey have just moved house and their three bedrooms are all big, I would have no problem having everything in one of those.

Here you go then look at all the detail sets that are available for the model as well, bet you could end up paying more than the original £60 if you wanted too :D

I am looking at some I might just stretch to:

I buy the occasional magazine/book from SAM publishing like the one that has just been published:

http://www.sampublications.com/airfix-build-and-convert-series/airfix-build-convert-classic-british-jets-part-3/prod_406.html

They help with builds/ideas/add ons etc, even if you are experienced I like reading this sort of thing, I wish I had used them earlier on when I re-kindled my modelling interests.

I will stop posting links now before your wallets end up full of moths instead of money =)) , and I do agree though the price for that model is not one to miss, I checked out the prices for that scale from other model shops i use and they range from £49 to over £80 for that scale, one even has an electric engine to turn the prop.

Lucky so & So, :D my missus has gone out today so I expect I will have the usual card saying could not deliver and then find time to get to the local sorting office. :((

It will still join the queue behing the 1/48 Chinook (in progress), the 1/48 Hunter F6/9 and a 1/48 lightning (which was an impulse buy like the Spitfire).

Just waiting for the arrival home of S.W.T.S.M.B.O. to see if it starts an argument. :-o

It's sitting across my armchair at the moment after the boys have glanced admiringly at the box! :D

I need to think about that book.

I think the book is ok, it has helpfull gen on conversions, after market bits and corrections of the aircraft models included.

Perhaps Jim and I said please, did you?

That must be it, my people skills are degrading with age :))

update: I now have the model, it ain't half big, I have no ceiling space to fit this in when I get around to making it.

Mick

Have you been through the sprues? There appears to be a Volkes radiator so it could be finished as a tropical version! ;)

Dave, I have had a quick look to see what detail is on the cockpit area as I have never had a model of this scale but not looked into that detail. According to Wikipedia (for now) the VB (tropical) had the volkes tank as you said, I have noticed that this one is also modified with the "gun heater intensifier" pipes on the exhaust and there appears to be two different propeller sets, so maybe you can show it as either:

Different propeller types were fitted, according to where the Spitfire V was built: Supermarine and Westland manufactured VBs and VCs used 10 ft 9 in (3.28 m) diameter, 3 bladed de Havilland constant speed units, with narrow metal blades, while Castle Bromwich manufactured VBs and VCs were fitted with a wide bladed Rotol constant speed propeller of either 10 ft 9 in (3.28 m) diameter, with metal blades, or (on late production Spitfires) 10 ft 3 in (3.12 m) diameter, with broader, "Jablo" (compressed wood) blades. The Rotol spinners were longer and more pointed than the de Havilland leading to a 3.5 in (8.9 cm) increase in overall length. The Rotol propellers allowed a modest speed increase over 20,000 ft (6,100 m) and an increase in the service ceiling.

I am going to do more research for when I am ready to start building and decided which version to build.

Looks like EN951 was a Fourth order for 904 Spitfire Mk V. Dated 23 August 1941, built at Vickers Armstrong (Castle Bromwich)Ltd: Contract no.B981687/39/C.23(c) (EN944-981), so that should sort out the propeller. I think I will take a break for now.

Done some bits on the machine, I have to say the quality of manufacture is really poor, ill fitting, you name it, I would be a tad revved off if I had paid £60 for it.
