RAF Roundels

Postby Pujgnie » Tue Jun 30, 2009 7:04 pm

Have noticed that over the years - the good old RAF roundel has diminished in size, to the almost now insignificant version. Is it cost cutting.. or are we embarassed by our lack of airpower ? ;)

Phantoms, Lightnings, Victors, Vulcan and Buccaneers (to name a few) proudly wore a large roundels, Red White & Blue or Blue and Red. Is it me or am I getting old :((

Could it be that smaller national insignia is;

A, harder to see?

B, better camouflage? ;)

Slightly getting off topic...

Still trying to find images of the RAFs only Green and Dark Brown Nimrod, the latter was affectionately known as the 'flying t**d'. St Mawgan circa late mid to late 70's.

They DID exist... I was stationed there at the time. In them days they were all wearing the Grey/White pattern, except these 2 :D . (Rumour at the time was due to a Stores Ref No error - hence wrong colours [-x :)) )
