de Havilland Aircraft Heritage Centre

Took a trip to the above museum on Saturday. Fascinating little place and well worth the £5 entry price. Only had around an hour and a half there (long story!) and a bit more time would have been good, but here are a few of the photos I took:

Interestingly, the Mossie prototype remained the fastest Mosquito ever produced as it had no armour or armament, no bombing mechanisms, no radar and the engines were upgraded. It survived as DH's chief designer kept moving it so nobody could locate it for disposal! As can be seen, conservation work is ongoing for this rarest of aircraft.

Sadly, despite employing the same tactics to 'hide' the DH Hornet prototype, this was destroyed by the company to gain storage space!

In addition to the photographed aircraft, most of DH's significant types are present, including the Venom, Dove, Comet 1a (fuselage), DH125 business jet, Chipmonk and Trident 2 (front fuselage).

Cheers,

Gully

TSR-2 simply got the first 3 right. ”
