Postby Mags » Sun Oct 04, 2009 5:56 pm

Wasn't sure where to put these. Quite a nice day today but Portmoak was suffereing from square thermals again so didn't get very high. ~x(
I'll put them overby FAO Sam incase he doesn't catch them here.

Never flown at the long Mynd Spitfire although I gather it's a great site. :)

Here's few from this afternoon........classic day at Portmoak..........as usual, a struggle to get into wave but worth the effort and ploughing through all the turbulence

Ooooh look 12000 feet!

It would have been well possible to do a decent cross country today and I'm sure a few will have got their diamond height claims..........I must get the oxygen serviced!!! ~x(
AND my onboard ladies loo broke as well :(( ..........so no long flight for me.

Brilliant - did an air experience there in a Blanik - the guy who I went up with was going to take some aerial photos - we came off the winch and he couldn't get a thermal so we came straight down - he told me to stay put and we went up again - hit some ridge lift straight off the winch - got some height - found a thermal and went up to about 5000ft - and then used the cloud base to stay up.

We were up almost an hour - I flew whilst he took the pictures he wanted - and then he asked if I had a strong stomach as we came down and we did some loops and wing overs - then - the best bit ..... for those that don't know the Long Mynd its a long thin almost flat topped mountain with a gliding station on the top of the ridge at one end. He came down REALLY fast and we skimmed over the heather the whole length of the mountain at about 30 or 40 feet - popped up over the gliding station perimeter hedge and just whopped out the airbrakes and landed :D :D :D :D :D

Air experience indeed :p :p

The same day they were doing bungee launches off the ridge edge - that was a sight to see - looked really exciting.

'whopped', sir? It is a common word down our way.

Damn!

Oh, I'm sorry, sir. I'm anus-peptic, phrasmotic, even compunctious to have caused you such pericombobulation.
