Vickers Vanguard

Postby Trolley » Mon Dec 15, 2008 10:05 pm

Why is that trusty old workhorse the Vickers Vanguard so lost in the history of British airliners?

I had a most pleasant flight in one with the good lady wife from Heathrow to Prestwick back in the 60s. "BEA" I do believe.

I happened to "stumble" upon the following on You Tube. That's G-APEP (Merchantman) at Brooklands on 14 October 2006. Not just a beautiful face... she still does regular engine runs.

Chocks Away!

ah yes, another classic prop that seems to have got forgotten - the 737 of its day really.

the Vanguard was one aircraft that showed just how huge Britain was in the aviation industry. it wouldn't be so bad if it had succumbed to better competitors (much like the British motorcycle industry did) - but it didn't; the politicians actively drove it into the ground! X(
