I see they place orange markers down on the ground - presumably for a reason??

David, they certainly do acknowledge the photographers, a friend of mine actually recieved some wonderful pictures of him flying his 100 Sqn Hawk through the Mach Loop a few years ago. The photographer had contacted RAF Leeming and forwarded the shots to him, he then rang the chap and actually had one of the shots looking down on him as his laptop screensaver!

The orange banners let the aircrew know where the "FANS" are.

Do people just go up there randomly or do they know when flying takes place
?

Interesting question - anyone got an answer??

Later.... just stooging around on UT and you find some brilliant flickr sites of the Mach Loop photographers ....

Yes they do acknoweldge their fans ....

And they get some stunning images....

Stick some good music on and then watch this lads photostream on a slideshow and look at them all - there's some cracking photography :D

Some of the images are SO clear you can see that the cockpit floor needs a good hoover :p :p

:-o :-o :-o :-o :-o :-o

A 'normal' rejected take off .......looks like it might have been a planned 'test' ......wings visibly drop and spoilers come out at 0:17 ........but just keep watching......... the best is yet to come :p :D

Nothing looks a miss - then BOOM out goes a tyre - followed by another .......but those firemen are SO slow - and ridiculously inept it's just painful to watch - I suppose they might have been scared of the blowing tyres - but that one bloke on the right can't seem to keep a steady flow of foam and it looks like there should be 2 on the nozzle to support it. Why didn't they go around the inner nacelle and attack it from where we are viewing :p :D All very strange :))

Yeah :) Look great, sound fantastic. I did many a FOD plod around the perimeter at Brawdy. Used to lay down behind the catch nets at the end of the runway and they (and Hawks etc) would take off or land right over my head. It was brilliant.
Was there for the disbandment flypast as well. A great sight and sound but sad none the less.
