About time, now all we need is it fitting and the retraction tests completed and signed off.

Let's have the workers on it.

Have a rest for the weekend though so you are all refreshed for Monday morning for the refit.

(Mind you if things HAD been done in 2007 like they claimed we would have had it back sooner).

PhantomAviator: The workers are assuredly on it and always have been, I sometimes do wonder how we got through the last three years without all the armchair Generals to guide us, its amazing we didn't cock everything up really

Thanks to Macrick, Those photos are brill mate. I am just back from the USA and feeling a bit guilty being away from the Vulcan in a time of crisis so I could achieve a life times ambition flying a very special machine. Seeing that little beauty on its cradle means I can breath again, thanks matey p.s About time you polished those safety shoes ya scruffy airperson!!

He forced the issue and the powers that be at the top agreed with him and insisted that they were done to the letter of the book.

When there were no serviceable aircraft to fly they had to relent and told the one's that knew, to carry on as before.


The time to worry is when so many corners have been cut that the square peg is now completely a circle.

I know the job is being done correctly DB, but I was sat on the meeting regarding the seals and on subsequent one's where the problem had allegedly been solved and the materials passed for use.

But then folk know I am but a grumpy ex-Chief Tech engineer and only interested in actually doing the work of making the Vulcan fly. My reply to a question such as: "would you like to produce a draft manual for aircraft enthusiasts to study, so they can misinterpret it and challenge everything the engineers do", would have made a chat with Ozzie Osbourn seem like a prayer meeting!!

IMHO The Haynes manual is not a definitive work. It's a taster of what is involved.
If the ACTUAL books were reprinted then the cost would be up there with the Encyclopaedia Britannica.

We all know that if we need a definitive answer we ask on here and the appropriate individual will (when time permits) post a response.

The next thing is you will be telling us that you have not been using the Airfix instructions as per the issue
B.Ae A09002 (Avro) Vulcan B Mk2.
It distinctly states in AP 4/A09002-1B 1 to 16 how to fully service the Aircraft.

And following that one would hope also that come Monday morning when they commence the undercarriage refit that they will be working to the same manual.
Specifically AP 4/A09002-3B sub-section 14, where it definitely explains how one should fit not only the port but the starboard undercarriage as well.

I do not think that the Haynes manual will be able to cover the maintenance in such a greater detail .

Only joking about the Haines Manual mate, I am sure the book is a wonder of aviation information and will give hours of endless pleasure to those who love an anorak, a note pad, a well sharpened pencil, some binos, a folding chair, a flask of coffee/tea and a windy airfield. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy

For but I am a simple person that knows nothing about this aviation engineering malarky....

I know if I take my car for an MOT and it fails on say a front wheel bearing I replace just that and not all four..however

Why is it that only one leg on XH558 needed rebuilding and not all three?
