Waddington the Verdict

So what's everyone thoughts on Waddington then from those who went?

I thought it was good - hardly left the Hurricane stand all once I got seated, the only time I moved was during the quiet lunch periods & to see 558 from thee tower & have a tour of the Apache [I want one ]. Sad some of the participants had to cancel yesterday because of the wind but couldn't be helped - I thought the flying desk did a good job of juggling those that could fly.

I see the enforcing of no gazebos & parasols went down well and although I wasn't affected it appears once the new company on gates opened them early on Saturday morning there were no queues to get in or out

One of the best years so far for me, although it's only the 4th (3rd i you don't include the cancled year) time for me, but the range of flying and static aircraft was pretty decent.
For the first time I managed to get a look around the open hangars (found the F1 car simulator but the queue was too long lol).

I loved the fact that tents, wind breaks e.t.c. were banned, I actually got to the front of the barrier (although I now know the reason for the gap was the speaker right in front lol ).
A chap just up the row started to put up a parasol or something and was told to take it down .

I spent a few hours by myself, before a short brake when I went to see if my mum had turned up where we had agreed to meet at the Vulcan Village (she hadn't as she decided it was too far and went back to the car ) and then I took advantage of the little enclosure behind the VV, which was excellent. Especially when 558 arrived and used the VV as the place to apply power right at the end


Even the loos were up to my high standard well ok they were ok at least they were no where near as bad as last years loos at RIAT, in fact these were clean and had plenty of loo roll, although they could have done with a "ladies bin" in the cubicles, if you know what I mean .
I couldn't find one and had to use the normal rubbish one which I didn't like.
Mum says they could do with a cuple of the single portrloos at the other end of the static by the blue car park, but other than that not bad

must confess I went looking for the VV but decided I wasn't going to go that far - plus it looked to complicated to negotiate the barriers & car park etc

Lady's bin? We men have rubbish to throw away too, you know. Sweet wrappers, tissues etc. etc. We don't get a bin.

I can see why they were all the way out there (if 558 had landed she was going to be parked there), but blimey it was quite a walk, especially as we were parked where the AWACS are parked normally
No wonder mum gave up
I nearly gave up and went back to the car if I hadn't gone to take pics of the AN26 I wouldn't have seen the VV.

But the thing is RLN we ladies don't many pockets like you boys to stick your rubbish in!!! Tissues - thought boys used their sleeves?

Considering this year I had the weekend for myself for a change and went both days, I thought it was better than previous years as there seemed to be more going on and additional items like the cars and the 'tent cities' with the guys and gals who do the re-enactments (well I think thats what they are). Andrew E mentioned that as a club member I was allowed into the VV enclosure so most of my time was spent there, it was quite a good spot for filming, no-one else in the way and no speakers, allthough that meant you could not hear what was going on. Of course the best bit was around about 14:30 Sat and 14:00 Sunday.

I thought there was many participants well worth watching not sure what my favourite was - good to see 558 there after all the uncertainty and she certainly has a presence she seem to just fill the sky, now the undercarriage cycle problem is solved I would like to see 558 do a roller especially at the venues where she isn't landing like Waddington - but I wouldn't say she was the highlight for me - Gripen, Harrier, Tornados. F16 all well worth watching...........I loved the Turkish Stars - tight formation although the display is a little thin at times but photogenic a/c.

No offence to the pyro guys, but none were better than the little puffs of smoke we got on the Sunday

I reckon someone pressed the wrong button and set off the wrong row of bangs

the problem was because some participants had cancelled yesterday & there were pyros that weren't used when they should have been, it effect the rest of the programme - I think on the last one in the above picture they blew the all that was remaining so 558 didn't get 'her' share - just the puffs!!

No ....you carry a firkin great haversack thing like the Tardis which you all laughingly call a 'handbag'
I kid you not we can be anywhere away from ther house and I can ask for absolutely anything and she's got it in her handbag - although some requests require a lot of rummaging The small thermo-nuclear device took several minutes - but it was there

I NEVER delve beyond the top zip myself .. I am sure there are things living in there that can bite unwary fingers

Its funny seeing her trying to look casual with the top of a bottle of water and a sunglasses case poking through the zip which won't close as beneath it there is a complete change of clothes - spare sandals - several months supply of feminine 'requisites' (some of which are now way beyond any useful function having been in there so long) - a selection of every tablet on the entire pharmacy shelves at Boots ... most of which are crumpled foil containers and some are completely empty - a purse which is bulging with 10 years worth of 1p and 2p pieces as she will always profer a note or silver 'because its quicker' - 100 years supply of loose tissues .. drawn manually from the box in the kitchen every time we leave the house and stuffed in there even though the last 50 have not been used - several spare pairs of certain undergarments 'because you never know' - 250 assorted colour biros ...99.9% of which never work.. but try finding the one that does - several assorted sized bin liners (for the very female occasion previously discussed) .........................

and all that's just the top layer ....god know's what's under all that

NNNnnnnooooo - I've seen it as its the top layer that gets taken out when there is a search on for something 'I know is in there' in the Paleozoic and Pre-Cambrian layers beneath
